Caravan Rhythms Remarkably Remixed-

Part of the Gypsy Caravan experience is that it takes all of us together to create our music and dance. This remix brings in a few local friends whom we asked to take the songs from our original rhythm CD and do a groovin’ dance remix.
With the Gypsy Caravan musicians on original Caravan Rhythms:
Jeff Rees,Bruce Beaton, Peter Archer, and Paulette Rees-Denis

The GypsiKelts had a rockin' time at Spirit this year. We had a couple of student performers with us this year, as well as our main members. It was kinda intimidating though having to follow jill Parker, Ultra Gypsy, Urban Tribal, Myra Betz, Tobias, et. all though! We were invited by Maja to close the saturday night show after those awesome performers. :-O It was loads of fun though and when we were finished with our thing, we looked in the side wings and no one was there. We thought, "hey where is everyone for the improv jam at the end?" Then the backdrop lifted to reveal everyone behind us! It was awesome!
Then at the after-party, getting to lead the drumming for the fire show on the roof was a blast and watching crazy Riz jump off the roof into the pool was something I'll never forget! Can't wait to do it again!

Several people ask us what the difference is between the GypsiKelts & our other group Shredd!, so I thought I would try to clarify. The GypsiKelts is a fusion of Middle eastern, Romany, Flamenco, and Celtic (mainly Irish) dance and was originally conceived by me as my signature dance style. Working with some of our professional collegues & friends in flamenco and percussion, it evolved into a loosely organized drum & dance clan. It was mainly a dance-based professional performance troupe. I originally envisioned teaching my GypsiKelt style to some of my students, however, I have found out that so far, none of my students have the inclination to learn Irish dance! It is very strenuous and requires a level of fitness that many aspire to, but are not quite there yet. My irish dance teacher, Myra Watters of Dublin, Ireland, is someone who I respect a great deal (she won awards at World Championships several times, toured with Lord of the Dance & Feet of Flames, and was an original contracted performer at the Lord of the Dance show at EPCOT.) As a student of her school and occassional competitor in local Irish dance adult competitions, I am not allowed to teach Irish dance because I am not a trained and certified teacher of this complicated art form. I could be rejected from future competitions (called feissanna) for teaching irish dance. So I chose to work with my flamenco friends Jenny & Ernesto, who have some similar steps in hard shoe, and we are creating a fusion of the styles, while honoring the roots of each.
Shredd! began as strictly a percussion-based group that included story-telling. It is directed by my husband, Greywolf and the name is his idea based on a slang usage he heard & liked. Shredd! was originally the Shredd! Percussion Ensemble and it is tranforming into the Shredd! Theatre Troupe, composed of Shredd! percussionists and the GypsiKelts dancers, and includes the story-telling aspect as well.
